CloudWatch log centralization expands to GovCloud and 13 more commercial Regions

AWS brings CloudWatch log centralization to both GovCloud Regions and 13 additional commercial Regions, with collection scoped through AWS Organizations.

Announcement: · From AWS

AWS announced expanded availability of Amazon CloudWatch log centralization on October 16, 2026, adding both AWS GovCloud (US) Regions and 13 commercial Regions. The feature copies logs from multiple accounts and Regions into a single destination account and integrates with AWS Organizations, according to the AWS announcement.

Where centralization is newly available

The 13 commercial additions are:

  • Africa (Cape Town)
  • Asia Pacific (Hong Kong)
  • Asia Pacific (Hyderabad)
  • Asia Pacific (Jakarta)
  • Asia Pacific (Malaysia)
  • Asia Pacific (Melbourne)
  • Canada West (Calgary)
  • Europe (Milan)
  • Europe (Spain)
  • Europe (Zurich)
  • Israel (Tel Aviv)
  • Middle East (Bahrain)
  • Middle East (UAE)

GovCloud availability covers AWS GovCloud (US-East) and AWS GovCloud (US-West). AWS describes organizations in the commercial and GovCloud partitions as each being able to centralize logs across their accounts and Regions; it does not announce cross-partition copying.

Choose the collection scope deliberately

According to AWS, centralization rules can cover an entire organization, specific organizational units or selected accounts. Copied logs preserve source context through enriched system fields.

For engineering teams, that scope is an important rollout choice. Starting with selected accounts or an organizational unit offers a more contained approach than organization-wide collection. During rollout, check that the preserved source context is useful in investigation workflows: collecting events in one place should not make their origins harder to distinguish.

Copy pricing and configuration

AWS says customers can centralize one copy of logs for free, while additional copies cost $0.05 per GB. Treat that as the centralization-copy price, not a total-cost estimate for a logging deployment; evaluate the broader logging bill separately.

Rules can be created through the CloudWatch console, AWS CLI or AWS SDKs. The regional-expansion announcement also points readers to the supported-Region table, CloudWatch Logs User Guide and pricing details.
