AWS announced **AWS Interconnect – last mile in preview** with Megaport on October 22, 2026. AWS describes it as a fully managed offering for privately connecting branch offices, data centers and remote locations to AWS while reducing manual network configuration. ## A managed provisioning workflow

In the AWS Management Console, customers choose an AWS Region and bandwidth, then supply a Direct Connect Gateway ID and partner subscriber ID. AWS generates an activation key to complete provisioning with Megaport. AWS says the service pre-provisions capacity and automates BGP peering, VLAN configuration and ASN assignment. Preview connections can also be created through the CLI or API. [Provisioning details](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/10/aws-announces-AWS-interconnect-last-mile-megaport-preview/)

For network teams, the potential gain is fewer repetitive configuration steps across AWS and the connectivity provider. An evaluation should separate that setup convenience from operational validation: check route propagation, address planning and failure behavior for the intended topology rather than treating successful provisioning as proof of resilience.

## Two-metro preview; bandwidth scaling planned for GA

AWS lists preview availability through Megaport in the **San Jose (us-west-1) and Northern Virginia (us-east-1) metros**. Megaport's broader network footprint should not be read as this preview's coverage map. AWS says dynamic bandwidth scaling from **1 Gbps to 100 Gbps** through the console is planned for general availability, rather than presenting it as a preview capability. The announcement gives no GA date. [Bandwidth roadmap](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/10/aws-announces-AWS-interconnect-last-mile-megaport-preview/)

## Verify the availability commitments

AWS also describes zero-downtime maintenance and says the service is backed by a 99.99% SLA. Those are AWS's claims; the announcement does not set out the contractual terms. Before relying on that commitment, confirm whether and how the SLA applies to a preview connection and which parts of the connection it covers. Automated configuration is a setup benefit, not by itself evidence of end-to-end resilience.
