Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports M8i and R8i instances in additional AWS Regions, according to [AWS’s November 3, 2026 announcement](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/11/rds-oracle-m8i-r8i-instances-new-regions/). The expansion gives teams more deployment locations for these Intel Xeon 6–powered instance families.

## Regional availability differs by family

AWS announced the following additions:

- **M8i and R8i:** Asia Pacific (New Zealand) and Canada West (Calgary).
- **R8i only in this announcement:** Europe (Milan), Europe (Stockholm), Europe (Zurich) and Israel (Tel Aviv).

For engineers planning deployments across multiple regions, the distinction matters: the announcement does not establish matching regional coverage for both families. It also should not be read as a complete inventory of either family’s existing availability.

## BYOL editions and size ranges

[AWS lists support](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/11/rds-oracle-m8i-r8i-instances-new-regions/) under the Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model for Oracle Database Enterprise Edition (EE) and Standard Edition 2 (SE2):

- **EE:** large through 48xlarge, plus the bare metal sizes metal-48xl and metal-96xl.
- **SE2:** large through 4xlarge, plus the bare metal sizes metal-48xl and metal-96xl.

AWS directs customers to its RDS for Oracle pricing information for available configurations, prices and regional availability. Before selecting capacity, verify the exact edition, size and region combination rather than infer every configuration from family-level support.

## Treat performance figures as benchmark inputs

[AWS claims](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/11/rds-oracle-m8i-r8i-instances-new-regions/) “up to 15% better price-performance” and “2.5x more memory bandwidth” compared with previous-generation Intel-based instances. These vendor-stated comparisons are not forecasts for an individual Oracle deployment.

The immediate engineering benefit of this announcement is broader placement choice. Evaluate potential performance gains separately: before changing production capacity, compare representative query latency, transaction throughput, instance cost and Oracle licensing requirements in the intended region.
