Regional availability in Hong Kong

AWS announced on September 11, 2026 that memory-optimized Amazon EC2 X2idn instances are now available in the Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Region.

According to the announcement, X2idn instances use third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and the AWS Nitro System. AWS says they deliver performance improvements over previous-generation X1 instances. That vendor claim is a reason to evaluate the family, not a substitute for workload-specific measurements.

SAP certification

AWS lists X2idn as SAP-certified for Business Suite on HANA, SAP S/4HANA, Data Mart Solutions on HANA, Business Warehouse on HANA, SAP BW/4HANA, and SAP NetWeaver workloads on any database.

For teams considering a Hong Kong deployment, the practical change is regional choice. The availability announcement alone does not establish the appropriate instance size, migration cost or expected application performance.

What to validate before deployment

Before committing to X2idn in the Region:

  • Check deployment constraints: verify available instance sizes, account quotas and regional pricing.
  • Measure the workload: benchmark peak memory consumption, sustained throughput and tail latency against the existing deployment or another candidate configuration.
  • Confirm SAP support: check the exact instance size and software combination against current certification and support requirements rather than relying solely on the family-level announcement.
  • Plan the migration: review storage and network dependencies, and define a rollback path before moving production traffic.

Regional availability makes X2idn a candidate for evaluation in Hong Kong; it does not, by itself, justify a migration.
