AWS announced on October 22, 2026, that it had expanded availability of 100 Gbps dedicated Direct Connect connections at the Netmagic DC2 data center near Bangalore, India. The expansion is at an existing Direct Connect location, rather than a newly opened site. AWS announcement
Availability and geographic reach
AWS described the expanded offering as available at the time of the announcement. The company says customers can establish private, direct network access from this location to all public AWS Regions except those in China, as well as AWS GovCloud Regions and AWS Local Zones.
Direct Connect provides a private, physical network connection between AWS and a customer’s data center, office or colocation environment. AWS says these connections can provide a more consistent network experience than connections over the public internet. Service and availability details
What engineers should evaluate
Treat the expansion as a connectivity-planning input, not an application-performance estimate. Before selecting a 100 Gbps connection for a migration or recurring data transfers, evaluate three areas:
- Capacity: Compare sustained workload demand with the proposed connection speed. Include storage, customer-side networking and application concurrency in the assessment rather than sizing from the connection speed alone.
- Resilience: Evaluate redundancy and failover separately from bandwidth. Identify the failure scenarios the design must cover and how service would be restored.
- Deployment: Confirm pricing, provisioning lead times and capacity for the intended deployment before committing to a migration schedule.
The practical next step is to assess the expanded option against workload demand and resilience requirements—not simply select the highest advertised speed.
