AWS DevOps Agent adds two-way Slack communication

Engineers can start and guide AWS DevOps Agent investigations in connected private Slack channels, with context, findings and recommendations captured in one thread.

Announcement: · From AWS

AWS announced on September 11, 2026, that AWS DevOps Agent now supports bidirectional Slack communication, allowing engineers to start and guide investigations from their incident conversations. AWS describes the capability as supporting production operations across AWS, multicloud and on-premises environments. AWS announcement

Investigations in one Slack thread

According to AWS, engineers can @mention AWS DevOps Agent in a connected private Slack channel to initiate or steer an investigation. Team-contributed context, agent findings and recommended actions are captured in a single thread.

Engineers can ask about AWS resources, system metrics, alarm status, deployment history and incident patterns. The interaction therefore goes beyond receiving notifications: responders can contribute information and direct an investigation from the Slack conversation. Feature details

What on-call teams should evaluate

For on-call teams, the potential benefit is easier handoffs. An incoming responder could review team context, findings and recommendations in the same thread, reducing the need to reconstruct what has already been examined across separate conversations and tools.

That benefit depends on how teams organize their incident channels and threads. A consolidated conversation is most useful when responders can distinguish observations, hypotheses and proposed actions.

Recommended actions also need to be evaluated separately from authorization to change production. Before adoption, teams should verify who can invoke the agent, which resources it can access and how any proposed remediation would be authorized. The ability to guide an investigation should not, by itself, be treated as evidence that the Slack interface can execute fixes.

Availability is limited to supported Regions

AWS says the capability is available in all commercial AWS Regions where AWS DevOps Agent is supported. That scope should not be read as availability in every AWS Region. Availability details
