Amazon DCV 2026.0 adds RHEL 10 support and a new macOS client

The release expands Linux support, introduces a macOS client with gamepad support, and adds Windows redirection and client decoding features.

Announcement: · From AWS

AWS announced the availability of Amazon DCV 2026.0 on October 13, 2026. The remote display protocol update expands operating-system support and adds features governing how remote sessions interact with local browsers, printer settings and gamepads. AWS announcement

Expanded Linux support and refreshed clients

AWS lists support for RHEL 10, Rocky Linux 10, CentOS 10 and Ubuntu 26.04, with Linux hosts and sessions running on Wayland. The release also introduces a new macOS client with gamepad support and updates the Windows and Linux clients. Platform and client details

For Linux desktop operators, the upgrade checklist should extend beyond operating-system support. Before replacing an existing host image, validate required applications, input handling and desktop workflows under Wayland.

The announcement also mentions support for new macOS server versions on Amazon EC2, but does not name those versions. Teams planning a macOS host upgrade should verify the specific supported versions before scheduling deployment. macOS server announcement

Windows redirection changes local interactions

According to AWS, URL redirection on Windows hosts lets configured links opened inside a remote session launch in the client device’s local browser. Printer preferences redirection on Windows gives remote sessions access to client-side printer settings. Redirection features

Treat the browser handoff as a change in where a link is opened, not just how it appears. For each configured destination, test reachability from the client device and verify the authentication flow in the local browser. Include printer-setting behavior in the rollout checks as a separate workflow.

Decoding changes aimed at lower latency

AWS says H.264 frame slice support and slice-based multithreaded decoding on Linux and macOS clients are intended to lower latency. The announcement does not quantify that benefit, so it does not establish an expected performance gain for a particular workload. Performance details

Measure responsiveness with representative workloads before assigning a performance target to the upgrade. Keep that evaluation separate from compatibility checks: support for a host operating system and a latency improvement are different reasons to adopt the release.
