AWS [announced on October 15, 2026](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/10/amazon-bedrock-agentcore/) that Web Search on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is now available in four additional AWS Regions, including AWS GovCloud (US-West).

## Newly supported Regions

The announcement names:

- US East (Ohio)
- US West (Oregon)
- Asia Pacific (Sydney)
- AWS GovCloud (US-West)

AWS describes Web Search as a fully managed tool that provides AI agents with current information from the web for research, summarization and question answering. This is a regional availability update to that tool.

## Evaluate latency across the whole workflow

For engineers, the practical change is a wider choice of Regions for the web-retrieval step in an agent workflow. [AWS says](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/10/amazon-bedrock-agentcore/) retrieving information closer to applications and end users can lower latency, but the announcement provides no measurements.

Treat that claim as a reason to evaluate placement, not as a quantified performance guarantee. Before moving a workload, compare end-to-end response times, including model inference and other tool calls. Measure the retrieval step separately to determine whether any improvement there meaningfully changes the total response time.

## Review GovCloud suitability for each workload

[AWS positions the GovCloud (US-West) addition](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/10/amazon-bedrock-agentcore/) as an option for government workloads with compliance and data-residency requirements.

Treat regional availability as a starting point for review, not as a workload-specific compliance determination. Before adopting the tool, validate the proposed data handling against your workload’s compliance and residency obligations. The GovCloud expansion named in this announcement is specifically US-West.
